Opening reception: Thursday, May 20th, 4-8pm
Address: 242 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011

Dinner Gallery, formerly VICTORI + MO, is proud to present In Good Taste, a group exhibition by 18 artists, exploring the evolution of food within art history and the significant role it plays both physically and metaphorically in our daily lives. This show opens May 20th and will remain on view through July 10th, with an opening reception on Thursday, May 20th from 4 - 8pm.

In addition to being a source of nourishment, food has been a constant subject of interest to artists throughout art history. The multidimensional ways in which food has been represented allows for a cross-cultural examination that transcends generations and styles. Still-lifes of feasts and fruits have been used to reference class and wealth as well as life and death, while also exploring aspects of religion, mythology and ideology. The artists in In Good Taste continue in this tradition of art history while creating food-related work through a modern lens.

The artists in this exhibition use depictions of food in a myriad of ways that document important aspects of daily life through representations of cultural identity and tradition, while also addressing larger social issues such as gender, sexuality, consumerism and waste. Each artist transforms the meaning of food into their own aesthetic and conceptual language.

While In Good Taste celebrates food, Dinner Gallery acknowledges not every American has access to food as a basic human need for survival. Dinner Gallery will be donating a portion of sales to God’s Love We Deliver, an organization that provides nutritious, medically tailored meals for people too sick to shop or cook for themselves. In addition,  the gallery will be organizing volunteer opportunities for those who wish to give back to the community.
